Filmmaker Hannah (Olivia Colman) reist met haar non-binaire tienerkind Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) naar Amsterdam om bij haar vader Jim (John Lithgow) op bezoek te gaan. Frances noemt hem liefdevol Jimpa en hoopt een jaar bij hem te kunnen blijven. Dit confronteert Hannah met haar ouderschap en verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel. Jim dringt erop aan dat Frances het queer leven in Amsterdam ontdekt. Maar hij ontkomt er niet aan dat de vrijheid waarvoor hij naar Amsterdam trok niet dezelfde is als die van zijn kleinkind.
