Leaving Las Vegas

Scenarioschrijver Ben (Nicolas Cage) is een alcoholist zonder toekomst en zonder vrienden. De iconische film uit 1995, waarvoor Nicolas Cage een Oscar won en Elisabeth Shue een nominatie kreeg, keert vanwege zijn 30-jarig jubileum terug in de bioscopen in een 4K restauratie. Leaving Las Vegas is gebaseerd op de gelijknamige roman van John O'Brien, die zijn eigen alcoholverslaving als inspiratie gebruikte. Kort nadat hij hoorde dat zijn boek succesvol verfilmd zou worden, pleegde hij zelfmoord. Vanwege het beperkte budget draaide regisseur Mike Figgis veel op bestaande locaties in Las Vegas en met natuurlijk licht. Dat geeft de film een rauw, bijna documentaireachtig karakter. The iconic 1995 film, for which Nicolas Cage won an Oscar and Elizabeth Shue received a nomination, is returning to cinemas in a 4K restoration to mark its 30th anniversary. Leaving Las Vegas is based on the novel of the same name by John O’Brien, who drew inspiration from his own alcohol addiction. Shortly after learning that his book was to be successfully adapted for the screen, he took his own life. Due to the limited budget, director Mike Figgis shot much of the film on location in Las Vegas, using natural light. This gives the film a raw, almost documentary-like quality. Figgis also composed much of the jazzy soundtrack himself.
