Onder de Catalaanse zon leeft een welvarend, wit Amerikaans gezin in hedonistische afzondering, op zoek naar liefde en erkenning bij elkaar — in designerkleding en popmuziek. Wanneer Jack (Jamie Bell) bij zijn vriendin (Elle Fanning) wil intrekken en Ed (Callum Turner) de waarheid over de dood van hun moeder (Pamela Anderson) ontdekt, komen onderhuidse spanningen aan de oppervlakte en breken de bloedbanden. Rosebush Pruning is een uitzinnige, zwarte satire met een sterrencast over de waanzin van de patriarchale familie. Regisseur Karim Aïnouz verfilmde een script van Efthimis Filippou, vaste medewerker van Yorgos Lanthimos en schrijver van Dogtooth, Kinds of Kindness en het Oscar-genomineerde The Lobster. De film ging in wereldpremière in de hoofdcompetitie van het Filmfestival van Berlijn. Rosebush Pruning is a wild, pitch-black satire with a starry cast, skewering the madness of the patriarchal family. Director Karim Aïnouz brings to life a script by Efthimis Filippou, the regular collaborator of Yorgos Lanthimos behind Dogtooth, Kinds of Kindness and the Oscar-nominated The Lobster. The film had its world premiere in the main competition at the Berlin Film Festival. Aïnouz, who earned international acclaim for The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão (winner of Un Certain Regard at Cannes), shows here just how quickly we abandon the veneer of civilisation for our most primal instincts.
