Hoofdverpleegkundige Lucy (Léa Drucker) draagt tijdens haar nachtdienst de zorg voor de vierjarige Adam. Na een uitspraak van de kinderrechter is hij opgenomen in het ziekenhuis wegens ondervoeding. Zijn moeder Rebecca (Anamaria Vartolomei) mag haar zoontje in principe alleen tijdens bezoekuren zien, maar Lucy besluit ondanks de strikte regels een uitzondering te maken. Als de uitgeputte en radeloze Rebecca weigert om Adam alleen te laten, komt Lucy voor een moeilijke keuze te staan.
