Split between Usquert in the north of the Netherlands and Miera in northern Spain, the film traces two very different terrains and two intimate journeys: Anna grieving her father in a flat, open land below sea level, and Carlos building a new life with their newborn son in a mountainous valley steeped in history. Through meticulous observation of nature, the marks of human labor, and the passage of time, Level explores how personal loss and renewal unfold in the shadow of geological and social change. It is a story of opposites, north and south, life and death, old and new but also of continuities: grief gives way to discovery, endings yield beginnings, and landscapes preserve memory even as they shift irrevocably.
