Beschrijving
Andrea is a middle-class woman whose life collapses when her son Gustavo is unjustly imprisoned. Overnight, her routine transforms into an endless wait outside the prison, where she must stand in line alongside other women who carry the same pain. At first, she feels different, alien to this hostile world. But she soon realizes that the true punishment does not end behind the prison walls: it is also endured by those who wait outside. In this space of silent resistance, Andrea discovers an unexpected support network among the so-called “women of the line.” United by uncertainty, stigma, and hope, these women teach her how to hold on when everything seems to be falling apart. As she fights to prove her son’s innocence, a revealing twist will challenge her deepest convictions, forcing her to confront the boundary between blind faith and truth. With the intensity and sensitivity that characterize Benjamín Ávila’s cinema, The Woman in Line is a moving drama about motherhood, justice, and resilience. A story that transcends the personal to portray the human impact of judicial systems and the collective strength that emerges on the margins. A film that challenges, moves, and leaves a haunting question: How far does a mother’s love go when the truth begins to unravel? More than a social drama, La Mujer de la Fila launched a pioneering social impact campaign in Latin America, engaging audiences and generating real-world action for families affected by incarceration. Recognized for its profound social relevance, the film is a testament to cinema’s power to inspire empathy and change.
