Pillion

De verlegen Colin, die nog bij zijn ouders woont en een saai leven leidt als verkeersagent, ontmoet de charismatische biker Ray. Wanneer Ray hem meeneemt in zijn wereld, begint Colin een intense BDSM-relatie waarin Ray dominant is en Colin de onderdanige rol op zich neemt. Terwijl Colin steeds dieper in de relatie en de biker-subcultuur belandt, ontdekt hij nieuwe kanten van zichzelf, maar moet hij ook zijn eigen grenzen, verlangens en identiteit onder ogen zien. Pillion is gebaseerd op de roman ‘Box Hill’ van Adam Mars-Jones, die in 2020 de Fitzcarraldo Editions Novel Prize won en opzien baarde vanwege zijn scherpe, soms humoristische kijk op macht en intimiteit binnen een relatie. De film is het speelfilmdebuut van Harry Lighton, die ook het scenario schreef. Harry Melling (Dudley uit de Harry Potter film series) speelt Colin en Alexander Skarsgård is de dominante biker Ray. Vooral Skarsgård wordt geprezen, omdat hij hier een totaal andere rol speelt dan zijn typische actiefilm- en thrillerpersonages. “Pillion” is het Engelse woord voor de passagierszit van een motor. In de film verwijst dat zowel letterlijk naar de bikerwereld als symbolisch naar de machtsverhouding binnen de relatie tussen Colin en Ray. * * * Colin, a shy young man who still lives with his parents and leads a dull life as a traffic warden, meets the charismatic biker Ray. The film marks the feature film debut of Harry Lighton, who also wrote the screenplay.
